INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE:  

ENDURING UNDERSTANDING: 
•	One of the most difficult transitions we face in our society is the move from adolescence to adulthood where we must learn how to become fulfilled individuals who are part of the community as a whole. 
•	There cannot be a complete understanding of literature unless we have engaged ourselves in the process of trying to create it at some point.
•	In life, we need creative and constructive emotional outlets and means of expression.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:  
•	How can gain insight into ourselves, our lives and the lives of those around us by examining Holden Caulfield?

AIM:  
How do we understand the social context in which J.D. Salinger wrote through analysis of different cultural media?

HOMEWORK:  Write one page answering the following question: “If you were a parent, in which environment would you rather that your child grew up in, New York in the 50s or Valley Forge Prep School?”
MOTIVATION: Write what you think the quote of the day means in your own words?
